The Different Types Of Air Conditioning Systems

If you are looking for a new or replacement unit for cooling your home or office, it’s important to know about the types of air conditioning that are on the market that you can choose from. Here are the three most typically used systems.
  1. Window Air Conditioning Systems
If you are trying to cool just a single room or two, window units are the type frequently chosen. In this case, the entire cooling system is housed in one box. This box is then fitted within an opening that is made in the wall or on a window sill. For small apartments, or if you want cooling only in a couple of rooms of your home, such as your bedrooms, these could be the way to go.
  1. Split Air Conditioning Systems
When you need to cool more than just a couple of rooms, then you are probably going to be looking at a split system. They are called split because they are comprised of an outdoor and an indoor unit. These come in three different types:
  • Mini-split or ductless system
  • Central air conditioning
  • Portable split system
In these systems, the components are housed in a single unit that is typically positioned near the foundation or on the roof. Ducts are then used to pull air from within the house and replace it with cooled air.
